Tim and Willy have been a valley staple for as long as I can remember in country music radio (except for a very short out-of-state gig which they quickly recovered from and were forgiven for). I grew up listening and loving the All Earl Band and their pop-country parodies, and am constantly amazed at the efforts these boys go through to make this sprawling valley feel like one big family. I wake up and head to work every morning at 5am and am happy to catch the beginning of their show on my way in. It starts my day off feeling happy and energetic. So you can imagine how my heart sank last night when the local news station reported that they will not continue broadcasting with KNIX or Clear Channel Communications after the new year.
From their official site:
It’s official: After nearly 10 years, Tim & Willy will no longer be heard on 102.5 KNIX- starting January 1st, 2008.
Though this may come as quite a surprise, (it has to us) we want you to know the simple facts and how this has come to be.
We did not quit. We did not get fired. We are not leaving for a better job. This was not about money or any fancy perks. We simply could not come to terms with the station’s parent company- Clear Channel Communications over the length of a new contract. We hold no grudges with the guys who had to make this difficult decision and we leave feeling very proud of the work we were privileged to do on this legendary station.

Boys, you will be missed, but no matter what adventure you take up next, know that your fans will follow and support you all the way!

Is Clear Channel Communication INSANE?!!?
These guys keep KNIX on the radio dial and they let them go!! The “replacement” lost tons of listeners from his previous station and I suspect the same will happen w/KNIX.
I hope KNIX has plans to pick their butt up off the floor when the Boys leave. You have now lost another listener.

I am incredibly disappointed! KNIX just lost a listener. I can’t stand Dave Pratt, but that is the only country radio station I will be listening to. However, I will be listening to KTAR most of the time, most likely. Here I come Tim and Willy!

[...] As a long time Tim & Willy fan you can imagine my excitement when I caught Tim Hattrick on the morning news announcing the triumphant return of Tim & Willy to KMLE Country 108! The pair will begin broadcasting on the radio station’s morning show the week of January 5th, 2009 marking almost exactly one year from the time the duo left KNIX. [...]

Tim & Willie are SO full of themselves!! I was ecstatic to see them leave KMLE the first time and again when they left KNIX. Dave Pratt got shafted by KLME where he and his crew will be terribly missed, but I guess that’s the way radio works. Now that there isn’t a decent country stations in the Phx. area, looks like I’m going to listen to satellite. I’d rather PAY to hear music, than listen to the constant rantings and babblings of T&W.

I never cared for Tim and Willy before, that’s why I switched to KMLE and now with them getting rid of the whole Pratt crew KMLE just lost another listener. The Pratt crew was funny, informative and had great regular guests that no other station had. I cannot stand the rantings of T&W so KMLE will not be getting my attention anymore. CBS has forced me to go to KNIX since they are the only country station left.

I switched to country music a couple of years ago after moving back to the valley, mostly because of Tim and Willy. They love their jobs and I love their humor and their energy. When they left KNIX there was a void in the airwaves. I tried KMLE at the time and just couldn’t get it in my blood. I am so glad Tim and Willy are back. If KMLE wasn’t #1 before it will be now!!!
